If you are an AUDIOLOGIST looking for a full or part-time opportunity to grow, St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf (SJI) has an exciting opportunity for you! Based on our St. Louis Campus, you will provide comprehensive audiologic management to pediatric patients and children under the age of 18. As the lead to our Audiology clinic, you will be a valued member of the SJI Staff.
The ideal candidate is looking for a stable setting working with our early intervention, preschool and neighboring school districts. This position offers a flexible scheduling approach which allows this role to have an influence on days worked; this can be discussed during the interview process. This role also does not have after hours or on-call duties.
AS A PEDIATRIC AUDIOLOGIST, YOU WILL:
Lead our Audiology Clinic and set our Audiology hours.
Ensure children receive appropriate audiology services including evaluation, hearing aid selection and fitting, cochlear implant counseling, mapping and follow-up care along with evaluation for other appropriate assistive devices as necessary.
Provide a wide range of evaluations to patients using appropriate testing protocols including but not limited to: pure tone audiometry, immittance/tympanometry, real ear aided responses, electroacoustic evaluation of hearing aids and other assistive listening devices.
Counsel patients and their families on evaluation results and make recommendations for appropriate hearing technology for type and degree of hearing loss.
Ensure that hearing aids, cochlear implants and other equipment are properly fit, and families, teachers and therapists have the information needed to help patient derive optimal benefit from technology.
Provide troubleshooting and on-site repairs/replacement of defective equipment. Make follow-up referrals for medical intervention as needed.
Prepare timely reports on diagnostic test results and provides results to family, teachers, therapists, and other providers as appropriate.
Provide information and feedback during meetings such as patient counseling sessions, staffing, in- services, and faculty meetings when appropriate.
Participate in the development and implementation of community outreach activities to enhance the department through visits to area physicians, professionals, and other organizations.
Provide outreach Audiology services for school districts.
Participate in the supervision of practicum students placed in the Audiology Clinic from University programs.
Maintain information on current available technology for all patients as well as continue education through workshops and seminars to further develop and enhance professional skills.
Knowledge of assessment tools available for the identification and habilitation of patients with hearing loss, ability to select appropriate tests for patients including those for difficult-to-test clients.
Interpret and coordinate test findings, both formal and informal, with subjective information to design an individualized course of hearing management. Ability to analyze the benefit of technology to patient outcomes and counsel accordingly.
Collaborate with hospital ENTs and audiologists throughout the cochlear implant process from diagnosis, amplification trial, CI selection, initial stimulation, and ongoing mapping sessions.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Doctorate degree in Audiology
Certification of Clinical Competence in Audiology from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association
A Missouri License in Audiology and Missouri Hearing Instrument Specialist's License
Maintain certification in Missouri and Illinois to provide services for infants and toddlers through state early intervention programs.
